About The Gardener's Cabin

The Gardener's Cabin is a simple, rustic cabin on the farm, offered as part of our work-trade program and especially well suited for someone interested in growing food, working with the land, and experiencing the everyday rhythms of a small homestead.

If you have been looking at rural property in Northern California and wondering whether you could actually build a more self-sufficient life there, a stay here offers an opportunity to experience some of that lifestyle firsthand before making a larger commitment.

Residents contribute 15 hours of work each week and learn by doing. Depending on the season, that may include permaculture gardening, weeding, pruning, harvesting, food preservation, animal care, and general farm maintenance. With its warm wood interior and wood stove, the cabin provides a simple place to settle in after a day outside.

Monday–Friday, 9am–12pm

Work trade may include

  • Permaculture gardening and maintenance
  • Weeding, pruning, and harvesting
  • Food preservation, canning, and drying
  • Mowing and general farm maintenance
  • Animal care
  • Occasional cow milking if interested
